This beautiful gold plated medal and miniature have been struck to commemorate the 250th Anniversary of the Capture of Louisbourg. Is it a faithful replica of the original housed in the National Maritime Museum, London. Special permission has been granted for the production of 100 medals, to be distributed only to members of The 78th Fraser Highlanders! Thereafter, the molds are being destroyed.
The original medal was created for the Canadian campaign of the Seven Years War to recognize individual acts of bravery or distinguished service leading to the capture of Louisbourg in 1758. It was awarded to members of the army and navy.
Official Description
Obverse: the globe surrounded by allegorical figures of victory and flanked by servicemen. The inscription “PARITER.IN.BELLA” means “Together in Battle.” The dates “1758” and “2008” have been added to make it unique to the 78th Fraser Highlanders.
Reverse: burning ships in the harbour. The inscription “LOUISBOURG.TAKEN.MDCCLVIII”
The detail on the medal is superb and will serve as a poignant reminder of the respect we owe to the memory of the original recipients.
