Come Join the Celebration…
Dear Fraser Highlanders,
By authority of Col. John I. Macfarlane, Col. Commandant, and on behalf of York Garrison, it is my pleasure to invite all 78th Fraser Highlanders from across North America to gather here on the weekend of Sept 28 – 30, 2007 to celebrate the 250th Anniversary of the Raising of the Regiment.
As you may have heard, we are greatly honoured that our Colonel-in-Chief, Lord Lovat, will be in attendance. As a result, the highlight of the weekend will be a Regimental Change of Command where Col. Robert G. Darling will take over command from Col. John I. Macfarlane. All Fraser Highlanders in uniform (78th Fraser Tartan kilt or trews, or Blazer Order) will be invited to participate in the parade. It will be a truly colourful spectacle featuring our Honourable Guard and the Musket Squads from Montreal and other garrisons.
Our volunteer committee has been hard at work setting up special hotel arrangements and organizing a full agenda of activities for our honoured guests. The enclosed brochure was prepared to provide an overview.
The weekend will commence on the Friday evening with a Welcome Reception and Scotch Nosing at the National Club…a fitting venue to welcome our Colonel-in-Chief. On Saturday morning there will be a Commander’s Conference, while other visitors will be free to explore Toronto’s many downtown attractions. The Change of Command parade will be held late Saturday afternoon at the Toronto Cricket Club. We’ll then move one block east to Armour Heights Officer’s Mess for our Formal Reception, Dining-In and Dance. On Sunday morning we will gather for a farewell brunch in our own private room at the elegant Le Royal Meridien King Edward Hotel. The hotel’s 150-item buffet has been voted the best in Toronto! This will be a most impressive venue for us to bid adieu to Lord Lovat.
We would be most honoured if you could join us for any, or all, of these special events and help York Garrison lead the way on this very special occasion.
Yours aye,
David R. Clark, Major
Officer Commanding, York Garrison
